Drum recording during lockdown

Project.775

Updated: May 6, 2020

With the recent lock down we were recently tasked to record drums for an online church service, and so with limited equipment being away from the studio this is our outcome.

Mic PlotChannel Count:

1/2- Kick in/out using a PCC160 and XXL LDD Kick mic

3/4 - Snare top/bottom using a B57a and S975

5 - HT - XXL Tom

6/7 - FT1 top/bottom - E604, C4

8/9 - FT2 top/bottom - E604, C4

10 - HH - C4

11/12 - OHs- C451

13/14 - Room - Se100as

We also set up a talkback/voice over mic using a 58 for the performer to record onto the track notes for when mixing later, and also a IEM mix for the performer to listen back to.

Everything was recorded on our daw of choice, Protools 12 2019 using a Soundcraft Ui24 as our interface, which gives us the opportunity for up to 24 channels multi track, but also means we could to a rough mix within the mixer to record separately to send immediately over to the other musicians to pay along to.
